Where name numerology comes from
The version used today is the Pythagorean one: each letter of the alphabet gets a value from 1 to 9, in a cycle (A=1, B=2... I=9, and J starts again at 1). The method was systematized in the early 20th century from ideas attributed to the school of Pythagoras, which saw numbers as the structure of the world.
Let us say it plainly: numerology is a symbolic tradition, not science. No one should choose a child's name by a number. What it offers is a reading lens and a story to tell, the 'why' kept in the family's memory.
The three numbers of a name
The tradition reads three numbers in each name. The expression adds all the letters and describes the whole. The soul adds only the vowels, the inner wish. The personality adds only the consonants, the outer impression.
Sums are reduced to one digit (29 becomes 2+9=11, and 11 becomes 1+1=2), with one exception: 11, 22 and 33 are the tradition's master numbers and are not reduced.
Calculate by hand in a minute
Example with Ana: A=1, N=5, A=1. Expression: 1+5+1=7. Soul (vowels A+A): 1+1=2. Personality (consonant N): 5. Done: Ana is expression 7, soul 2, personality 5.
Accents are ignored (é counts as E) and the math works for any name, including ones that appear on no list at all.
The generator's suggestions already show each name's number, and each name page carries the full three-number reading.
